#TeamOpus goes abseiling

Call us crazy…

Last Friday, Ben Ternent and Natalie Robinson took #FridayFeeling to a whole new level (literally, we’re talking 16 levels high!).

Ben and I participated in Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice #FlightorFright challenge at Park Regis Birmingham. To help raise money for the charity, Ben and I had to tag team which resulted in one of us having to abseil down the side of Park Regis and the other having to run up all 16 flights of stairs. Fortunately for me, Ben bravely opted to abseil down and then I had to run up when Ben finished.

Firstly, we had a short induction on the 16th floor of Park Regis where there are panoramic views of the city which emphasised how high up we were, and how far down Ben had to go…

There’s no doubt that Ben was rather nervous before heading onto the roof of Park Regis but considering he’s not the best with heights, he did incredibly well! Throughout, Ben had a GoPro on his head to record his experience from 1st person, which we watched on the iPad. As we supported from below, we watched and cheered on Ben before I got ready to race my way up to the top, which was a timed event. I finished in 1 minute 30 and definitely felt it afterwards!

I can’t guarantee that Ben will be up for doing it again anytime soon, but we both had a great time, and was a nice change to our Friday.

St Mary’s Hospice raised a whopping £13,000 overall – very well done!
